Exclusive Screenshots of Google Calendar

! Yes, it’s here just for alpha testers. Thanks to Michael Amington @  and lew @ Blognone to point me to these impressive screenshots. As you might see in the first screenshot.

Everybody saw this screen will realize that it is another Google product. No image. Just text and CSS. Cool! Most of all, it seems to be AJAX-enabled calendar and every items are searchable.

Like other calendar, there are many views such as Day, Next 4 days, Week, Month, and Agenda. The interesting idea here is why next 4 days and what Agenda is. In my opinion, next 4 days are enough for 5 work days. It is a kind of week excluding weekend if you are on Monday. Agenda is the list of all events in time sequence. You might assume that it is To Do at specific time.

Well, CL2 is just calendar not PIM so there is no To Do and Note. Anyway, your event could be shared to your friends invited to that event. Great! And you have many choices to create an event.

  • Create Event - like usual calendar, a form will appear to fill in
  • Quick Add - Fill in your event in free text, CL2 will extract informations to fill in the form automatically
  • Drag through time scale - Specify start time and end time through your mouse pointer via drag action

I don’t think that the beta version of CL2 will only offer these options. If you noticed on the Google Toolbar, you will see Auto Link button. And in newer version, you will find Send to button which you can send current web page to Gmail, SMS, and Blogger. You might see the next button to CL2 for sure.

According to my previous post about Choosing a desktop calendar, I end up by choosing a standalone calendar running in Google Sidebar. CL2 must be there also. It’s just a matter of time. Below is my prediction of how CL2 looks like when it will be out of beta.

  • Integration with Gmail
  • Integration with Google Search
  • Integration with Google News
  • Integration with Google Toolbar
  • Integration with Google Sidebar
  • Integration with
  • Integration with Blogger
  • Integration with Google Video

So the point is what we get from Google Calendar. At this state, I wish it will show some search results in calendar view. I could add some search results to my calendar. For example, I am looking for a conference or workshop regarding Grid Computing. In the result pages, I could click on add to my calendar below each search result. Google could extract date and time of important dates such as submission deadline, acceptance notification, camera-ready deadline, and the real conference dates. Quick Add is the key.
