Google Romance: Online Dating Powered by Google

Oh my god! I have just found an article at Slashdot and another one at Blognone, Google has just released  beta. Have you ever imagine that Google will jump into online dating market? There are so many competitors around the world. In Thailand, we have Googig. Google claims that Google Romance has its own Soulmate search algorithm.

Unfortunately, this service is just another April Fool’s joke. IMHO, Google are able to offer this kind of service using the content in Google Base and adding the Soulmate search algorithm somewhere else. Since Google Romance only provides free text search, that means Google Romance might have very smart information extraction engine. Sure! They have very strong and robust information extraction engine so they always know what we want.

Google Romance may come true someday.

I remember it like it was yesterday. I saw it advertised, and being that I am unpartnered, I was excited. A free way to find my Heart's True Hero at last. When I went to sign up and got the message that it was a prank, I was disappointed and more than a bit miffed. They should do something like that for real, although in a different way -- no Contextual dates or psychographic matchmaking, but simply a search feature combined with a singles social network (like MySpace but strictly courtship-oriented) and call it Google Sweethearts (because no one would trust something called Google Romance after the prank they pulled on the tens and thousands of unpartnered souls in the world). A hopeful would-be Juliet or Romeo would type in what she or he wanted in a partner into the search box, and she or he would network with the matches the search provided. I don't think that will happen though. The fact that they had a dating service as only a spoof tells me that the Google wonks and honchos don't give a &$@# about the unpartnered.
