AllPeers in Ubuntu Dapper #1

Hooray! After waiting for so long, I got my activation code for AllPeers. This is news of the day for me. I would like to try it out right now. The version that I tried is AllPeers Beta 0.39. I choosed Linux 32-bit with libstdc++ version 6 that is default for my Dapper box. Installation went fine and next to restart to activate the installation.

Surprisingly, I was unable to start Firefox anymore. I got segmentation fault so I tried to install in another profile with empty extension. And then, it worked as expect. The problem is conflict with other extensions. So I find the exact problem by disabling all extensions and enabling them one by one.

Eventually, I found the problem in FoxyProxy. Right now, FoxyProxy cannot run with AllPeers in the same profile. As of now, I temporarily disabled FoxyProxy until the problem is fixed. So sad but okay for short period.

My only one concern is memory consumption. Below is what I saw in my laptop.

  • AllPeers Disabled - 149 MB
  • AllPeers Enabled - 159 MB
  • AllPeers with Navigator (sidebar) - 175 MB
  • AllPeers with Share (sidebar) - 175 MB
  • AllPeers with Transfer (tab) - 184 MB
  • AllPeers with all sidebars and tab - 184 MB
  • AllPeers without sidebars and tab - 184 MB

Not that bad. Just one notice. It seems AllPeers doesn't free memory when I closed sidebar or tab. Lastly, for now, I have to switch back to my default profile. So I installed AllPeers again. In the first step, I have to login to my account. Interestingly, there is nowhere to type in my username and password. There are only e-mail address and code in wizard style form. What's that? I didn't get it at all. Anyway, I typed my e-mail and my password and got incorrect notification. Then I tried my e-mail and my activation code recieved earlier without success. Fortunately, I refreshed my inbox and saw new messages from AllPeers. That's it. Whenever I typed in my e-mail, a code would be sent out to my e-mail. The code can't be used twice since it will be replaced by the new one if you type in your e-mail again.

That's enough for first use. I am waiting for response from my friends to test this thing out in action.
