Alternative Web Browsers
I have multiple accounts on some websites, e.g., admin user and a normal user. Sometimes, I would like to login the two accounts simultaneously to use admin user to configure the site and normal user to test the configuration immediately. Unfortunately, most websites rely on cookie authentication so I can login only once. The previous login session are purged autmatically. My favorite web browser is Firefox. So I need to run 2 browsers. Below are the list of browsers I tried.
- Internet Explorer
- Maxthon
- Avant Browser
- K-Meleon
Internet Explorer is already available in my laptop and it works just fine. It supports Google Toolbar. However, it consumes lots of memory and sometimes it is slow. The worst thing of IE is it is lacking of tab. I don’t want to have lots of window.
Maxthon is another free IE-based web browser that is highly customizable and it does supports tab. Unfortunately, it is incompatible with the latest Google Toolbar.
Avant Browser is my friend’s favorite web browser so I just want to try it out. AB looks very similar to Maxthon so it doesn’t support Google Toolbar as well. UI of AB is very unique because it has a very compact UI which all buttons are very dense. IMHO, Maxthon looks better.
I heard about K-Meleon at a blog. It claims that K-Meleon use the same render engine as Firefox and it is so fast. So I gave it a try. Yes, it is extremely fast comparing to Firefox, IE, Maxthon, and AB. Anyway, I found rendering problem while using Gmail.
In summary, I choose Internet Explorer because it has Google Toolbar and I like Google Bookmarks so much. Tab is not as important as Google’s services and its compatibility.
