Blognone Tech Day #1
Blognone Tech Day #1 was held at Kasetsart University today. As you could see in the program schedule, each speaker had about 24 minutes excluding questions and answers. This schedule is so tight, says 11 topics in 270 minutes. Anyway, the first 2 speakers took about 2 hours. I was one of them. Sorry. 20 minutes are too short for my topic Python on Zope. Some audiences may expect to see on-line demonstration. I have no idea how to do that on Zope. Zope is not designed to develop add-on product as quick as Ruby on Rails can do on the first topic.
The first presentation about RoR was very impressive. What I like the most is how RoR generates client-side Javascript for running on the browser. It’s cool! I like this idea. This feature lets us develop programming in only one language. We don’t need to learn how to write Javascript effectively.
Back to my topic, Python on Zope. Zope is not popular in Thailand. It is impossible to find Zope hosting in Thailand. So if you want to run Zope, you have to spend some money to place your own server or rent for a dedicated server. Not cheap at all. For me, Zope and Plone are still the best application server and content management system for large-scale project.
Since my topic focused only on Zope, next time I wish to focus on Python instead. Comparing to other language, I’m sure that Python provides highest readability. RoR or Ruby itself may offer lots of hidden feature with minimal coding. By the way, it also means that programmers are supposed to realize so many things to understand how the code works. 80% of the code are generated.
The third topic is Mono. I’m waiting for Mono. Anyway, there are so many names in .Net terminology. I like idea to name a thing. Well, I don’t want to name my laptop or my chair because I can’t remember all of them if I don’t call it everyday.
Next one is Emacs. It’s very impressive. Emacs offer powerful scripting interface. It also helps users to generate code very quick. But I like vi. I would like to type every spaces manually. It takes times but I don’t have to remember lots of shortcut keys. vi is just enough for me. Asterisk is another interesting topic. Actually, my friend let me ask how to contact this speaker. He is very funny guy. EJB 3.0 is the last topic that I attended in this event. I had to go home.
Well, I wonder why there are no pictures for this event. Noone took a single shot.
