False Alarm in Avast

You might ever encounter false alarm in Avast. Actually, I would say that I am a real fan of NOD32. NOD32 seems to be the best for me. My story started a few months ago. I recommended my friends to use NOD32 instead of Norton because its memory footprint was the best suitable for their machines (old ones) and NOD32 was so cheap in Thailand.

Last week, they called a technician to resolve computer related problem and he guessed that there were a kind of virus or worm in these machine for sure. However, NOD32 didn’t say anything at all. So he installed Avast and scaned the whole drives exhaustingly. The results was lots of warning about Trojan. In conclusion, there were 2 kinds.

  1. Win32:Trojan-gen Other
  2. Win32:exdl [Adw]

After googling for a while, it turned out that exdl is an executable file part of bargain buddy or demon z, adware/spyware or downloader, so it is not a virus, a worm, or a trojan. For Trojan-gen Other, deanyoung78 said in TechSpot Troubleshooting that it is just a false alarm. Please ignore it.

I don’t think it is a mistake of NOD32 that didn’t found these 2 threats.
