Install Emacs on Ubuntu Edgy

According to BTD2 yesterday, I spent a period of time to try the legendary editor called Emacs once again. This is not my first time to try. Anyway, it might be worth if it is capable to edit my note with Thai language in UTF-8 encoding since GVim doesn't serve me right.

There are so many Emacs packages in Ubuntu Edgy. The first one I tried is xemacs21.

sudo apt-get install xemacs21

Honestly, I didn't know how to use it so I just tried to type in Thai chracters. It shown up incorrectly so I tried another one.

sudo apt-get install emacs

At the first glance, I thought emacs might be console-based text editor but it was totally wrong. It looks very similar to xemacs21. In this emacs, I found how to specify Thai mode and how to save file in UTF-8. Sadly, it was also unable to render Thai font correct.

Eventually, I have removed them from my laptop until I got next recommendation.

sudo aptitude remove xemacs21 emacs
