Umair Salam wrote Installing and configuring the preview edition of EP on SDN. The weblog describes step by step from download to start server properly. I will give a brief visual guide based on that article. First of all, you should know what you are doing. You are going to install Sneak Preview SAP NetWeaver 04 SP15 Java Edition. If you want to try SP11, read the guide for SP11 instead. By the way, both version is just 90-day evaluation software for trial, not production run.

Assumptions

1. Windows Server 2003
2. 1 GB RAM
3. 10 GB harddisk space

Installation Procedure

1. Download the software from download section. The software consists of 4 rar files (SP and Developer Studio) at totally 4.93 GB.
2. Download and install winrar in case you don"t have one.
3. Install J2SE if you don"t have one. J2SE 1.4.2_10 is recommended.
4. Uninstall previous Sneak Preview, e.g. SP11
   1. Uninstall SAP NetWeaver Developer Studio via Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel
   2. Uninstall J2E instance by running \usr\sap\J2E\JC00\uninstsap.exe
   3. Uninstall MaxDB via Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel but below commands must be executed first
      

      dbmcli -d J2E -u control,control db_stop
      dbmcli -d J2E -u control,control db_drop

5. Extract the archive somewhere.
6. Double click on SAPinst.bat to start installation.
   
7. Fill the values based on what specified in the document in the archive.
8. Install SAP NetWeaver Developer Studio as usual.
9. After finish the installation, open SAPMMC using the shortcut link on the desktop.
   
10. Choose J2E and start it up. It takes so long time. What you can do is just to wait until you see all green.
    
11. Open browser and point it to http://localhost:50000/irj/portal.
    

If you could see above image on your screen, you have successfully installed SP15. Then you can try it out right now.
