Comodow PD552: Cheap USB headset+microphone for Ubuntu

Today I managed to temporarily solve sound driver problem in Ubuntu by just plugging a new USB sound device. It is Comodow PD552. It is very small and so cheap even for me, 450 THB or approximately 11 USD. It works on my Ubuntu's laptop just fine. Whenever I plugged it, Ubuntu notified me immediately about the new audio playback device and let me configure it at the same time.

Only one problem, I have some difficulty to change default sound card in Sound preferences dialog. I was unable to change the default permanently. Eventually, it works as expect after reboot the system again. So strange. Anyway, it works right now.

Lastly, I am feeling like a fool because I found the same device in other shops with lower price, says 300 THB or
8 USD.

Comodow PD552 Help

Hey guys... I just bought a 3D USB sound device. Apparently made by Comodow but there is no manufacturer name on the device itself, just a model number PD552. Anyhow, I hooked it up to my USB port and tried setting volume levels... I was only able to set the Playback level while all Record levels were disabled. Has anyone tried this device and have you come accross the same problem? thanks

speaker and microphone

yes i just got one of these

yes i just got one of these and no mic or recording input on the mixer its all greyed out. I run win XP. almost as if this device doesnt really have a mic input?. plus if i plug the headset into either socket it gives sound which suggests it is two outputs and no input. But i do read this can be a switchable item for the surround sound or mic. trouble is i cant find out how to do this. i downloaded the driver from a rar file 4.37mb and this runs up but stops saying please plug in the device even though it is plugged in. Also the drivers in the rar file if added manually in the control panel are the most up to date and still no mic input on the system. Anyone solved this???

I get the same "Please Plug-In COMODOW USB Audio" error when trying to load the Comodow 552 software. The device plays sound ok on the XP driver, but as others said, for input volume it only lists "Capture", not microphone, and the volume is low and sound bad. I've tried removing the windows driver and everything else I can think of. Hope someone comes up with a solution.

So do I, same device (PD552) same problem on XP; Windows installs a vanilla driver without mic and on low-quality, installing its driver stops saying "Please plug-in COMODOW USB audio. Don't think is a faulty HW as it works with Vanilla driver. Regards

I guest it's the CMI9738 chip (cmedia) I try dowload this driver but I'can't install it because it not detect the chip cmedia ....

Microphone and Ubuntu

Microphone does not work with Feisty nor with Gutsy on any of my three computers. I also have tried using a Creative sound card with Ubuntu and the microphone will not work with that likewise. I have that microphone issue on a VIA chipset, Intel chipset and Nvidia chipset. Moreover, I have tried every suggestion that I have googled, nothing is muted in my alsa mixer. Moreover, not even a USB headset seems to solve the microphone problem. I am at a loss for solutions.

Just got a PD552 from HK via

Just got a PD552 from HK via ebay. Cost £1.00 and it works fine. To get the device to read the signal I played back a video clip I had made and then switched to the Library of Windows Media Player and it kept playing thru the PD552. I only got it because the sound card in my laptop became defective and would cost £100.00 to (matbe) fix it. Hope this helps Alan
