patch for drupal ping module

Hello sugree, I was fiddling with the drupal ping module that comes with the install and I could not get it to work at all. I get the "fsockopen(): unable to connect to rpc.pingomatic.com:80 in C:\Programme\Apache Group\Apache2\htdocs\Drupal\includes\common.inc on line 322." error along with "Failed to notify pingomatic.com (site)" in my logs. I saw your posting saying that technorati does not recommend pingomatic anymore because of downtime. Then I saw your patch for 4.7 at http://drupal.org/node/11148. Does this solve the problem? Does this allow the drupal ping module to work? thanks, larry

It solved

I think that I didn't recommend to use pingomatic.com since it was going to outage very soon and I recommended below servers. http://rpc.technorati.com/rpc/ping http://rpc.weblogs.com/RPC2 http://ping.blo.gs weblogs.com is a must because blogsearch.google.com finds new blogs from them. My patch works very well. This site is using this patch too.

how can I check if it's working?

Thanks for your reply. I installed your patch (thanks) but I cannot tell if it's actually working or not. After new posts have been made, I checked my logs and saw no message saying the pings were sent out or not sent out. Is this normal behavior? How can I check to see if it's working? Should'nt I be getting log messages cheers, larry

no log = success

You should see your entry in technorati in next hour.

thanks again....but

I'm not sure how this actually works. If I understand your last message, I need to join technorati....is that correct? How do they index my blog? Does it go under a tag? Which tag would they use? Sorry, I just don't understand how my pinging technorati will get my entries listed. Could you PLEASE explain it? thanks, larry
