Personal Financial Tracking 2: GnuCash

According to previous review, I discuss about Grisbi. Now it’s time for a bigger one, GnuCash. GnuCash is a full feature open source accounting software. It seems to be the most powerful open source solution suitable for SME or even larger corporates. GnuCash is absolutely different from Grisbi in term of principle and objective.

GnuCash doesn’t focus on budgeting. Instead, it focuses on chart of account. In other words, you will never see hierarchical chart of account in Grisbi, but you will see in GnuCash. In addition, you will have general ledger in GnuCash. In Grisbi, you can add new transaction in a few step but not for GnuCash. You have to add new bill instead.

In conclusion, GnuCash is good only just for accountants and related fields. If you don’t know what general ledger is, GnuCash is not for you at all.

last time I tried, GnuCash

last time I tried, GnuCash used non-standard GTK widget which don't support Thai input. I think now time change and they switched to all GTK+2, right?

GTK 1.4

Sadly, no. I have to install all legacy gtk.
