How to monitor Apache HTTP Server

Apache HTTP Server comes with a handy mod_status for monitoring current status and performance of itself. However, mod_status doesn't show the performance in the past. I like the historical data because it would help me to find problem occured since last crash.

Gaim 2.0.0 beta 4 for Ubuntu Edgy Eft

Ubuntu Edgy Eft comes with Gaim 2.0.0 beta 3.1. Anyway, Gaim 2.0.0 beta 4 has just released. There is no official update yet. I found many threads in Ubuntu Forums discussing about unofficial deb of beta 4. For example, cookbook, beta 4, and beta 4 deb. There seems to have workable deb for Edgy Eft. However, I don't like anyone of them because most of them were built by checkinstall or Debian source package. So I decided to build one myself by modifying from Gaim 2.0.0 beta 3.1.

How to setup PPPoE in Ubuntu

In some cases, you may want to use your DSL router as a modem or you have a DSL modem and a linux box. It occurs to me right now since ZyXEL Prestige 650R-31 is not quite good for large network and its routing policy doesn't enable nat loopback by default. I managed to enable that feature via cron by the linux box but it seems sometimes not work properly. So I decided to switch it back to bridging mode (modem) through PPPoE. Setting up PPPoE in Ubuntu is very easy.

Reading winmail.dat in Ubuntu Edgy

I have just received an email contained an attachment namedly winmail.dat. At the first glance, I guessed that it must be a kind of microsoft format. My email reader, Mozilla Thunderbird should recognize it seamlessly. Sadly, it tried to open winmail.dat in MPlayer. However, I found a better way to read that file.

Install Emacs on Ubuntu Edgy

According to BTD2 yesterday, I spent a period of time to try the legendary editor called Emacs once again. This is not my first time to try. Anyway, it might be worth if it is capable to edit my note with Thai language in UTF-8 encoding since GVim doesn't serve me right.
